Full edition for scientific use.The Microcensus special survey from September 2002 consisted of two parts: -> standard-questions of the extended housing survey (A-sheet) -> care service, housekeeping, child care (B-sheet) Prior to the questions on sheet B there are two questions from the labour force survey program (duration of job seeking, limited duration of employment), an extension of the standard program. Since June 2000, they have to be asked quarterly for the EU and the Office for Statistics EUROSTAT. The field care service, housekeeping, child care had already been the topic of several Microcensus special survey (1969, 1977, 1983 and 1995). The comparison of this survey with those from the previous years shows changes in the behaviour of the partners concerning housekeeping and childcare and how much this change is the result of the increasing employment of women outside the household. Adequate institutional childcare which allows women to accommodate childcare and employment has been of public interest for the last years. An important aspect is the question of to what extent care and education is transferred from the family to public institutions. Another element of the survey is the question on the care of care-dependent relatives or friends, which is given special attention due to the ageing population.
